How to Get from Reno-Tahoe Airport to Incline Village and the North Shore — Without a Rental Car

It’s the question we field more than any other at the Visitor Center, and it shows up in our inbox almost daily: is there a shuttle from the airport?

There is. It’s called the North Lake Tahoe Express, it runs every day, and a surprising number of people who live here still don’t know about it.

Here’s everything you need to plan around it.

What the North Lake Tahoe Express actually is

The North Lake Tahoe Express is a scheduled shuttle service - not a rideshare, not a private car, and not something you have to charter. It runs fixed routes on a published timetable between Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) & JSX Terminal and communities around the lake, and it’s funded jointly by Placer County, Travel North Tahoe Nevada, the Town of Truckee, and Washoe County. Operations are handled by My Ride to Work (CPCN #6154).

The route most people on the Nevada side care about is the Blue Route, which serves Carnelian Bay, Tahoe Vista, Kings Beach, Crystal Bay, and Incline Village. Additional service reaches Truckee, the greater North Shore, and the West Shore.

Getting to the airport

On the Blue Run, there are five departures a day. The run starts at Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay and works east along the North Shore before turning into Incline Village, which means your pickup time depends on where you board.

The first run leaves Carnelian Bay at 6:20 am and picks up at the Hyatt Regency at 7:00 am, arriving at the airport around 8:00 am. The last run of the day leaves Carnelian Bay at 3:10 pm and the Hyatt at 3:50 pm, with an approximate airport arrival of 4:50 pm. In between, there are 8:20 am, 10:20 am, and 12:10 pm departures from Carnelian Bay.

Getting back to the Lake from the airport

Return trips leave Reno-Tahoe International - and the JSX terminal - four times a day: 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, 3:30 pm, and 7:30 pm. Each of those runs serves every stop on the route above, so you can be dropped near where you started.

That 7:30 pm departure is the one worth remembering. It covers most evening arrivals, which is exactly when the drive over the hill is least appealing.

What it costs

$85 one way, per person. Discounted passenger rates are available for guests traveling on the same date and shuttle time under a single reservation - so a family or a group booking together pays less per seat than four separate bookings.

It’s worth doing the math against the alternative. A week of airport parking, a tank of gas, and the wear of a round trip over the pass tend to close the gap faster than people expect - and that’s before you price in a winter storm, chain controls, or the cost of asking a neighbor for a 5 am favor.

Who this is actually for

Visitors are the obvious answer, and the service is genuinely good for them: you can land at RNO, step onto a shuttle, and be at your North Shore lodging without ever standing at a rental counter.

But it’s just as useful for residents. If you travel a few times a year, the shuttle removes the two least pleasant parts of the trip - the drive and the parking -  and it does it on a schedule reliable enough to plan a flight around.

Before you book

A few practical notes:

•      Reservations are required, this isn’t a walk-up service.

•      Build in buffer. Airport arrival times are approximate, and winter conditions affect the drive.

•      If you’re traveling with others, book everyone on one reservation to get the group rate.

•      JSX passengers are covered on the return trips - the shuttle serves that terminal too.
